NOTE: (2010-12-30) - 22:1-6 - When evil plans, the two extremes come together: Jewish leaders - and Satan in Judas. Jesus chose Judas as one of the twelve, knowing that according to Scripture he was to betray Him! - and - all for money - because he was a thief.

22:7-13 - The gifts of the Spirit moved through Jesus constantly and with complete ease. The Holy Spirit in Him was the secret for all of this, and all the gifts were in the Spirit. And because Jesus was completely yielded to the Father, therefore the Spirit had complete access through Him. Jesus has given His heritage of the Spirit to us - so if and when we are completely yielded to Jesus and the Father like Rees Howells - then the Spirit can and will move as freely through us. God is no respecter of persons! Our faith in complete yieldedness is the key for God to use us. Our Utmost - for His Highest! Personal, passionate devotion to Jesus is another way of looking at this.

So in the passage before us, Jesus sets up the Passover arrangements through Peter and John. One man has written a book entitled, “Jesus - 100% Man of Faith.” Jesus did notdo His miracles as God. Coming to earth as the Son of :man, He emptied Himself of all the prerogatives of the Godhead, and set us a perfect humanexample as the son of man. What He did in the Spirit as son of :man - we alsocan do. Peter and Paul are examples of the Acts of the Holy Spirit through believers in the book of Acts.

22:14-23 - This is one of the saddest portions of Scripture. The fate of Judas was not just a suicide - it is everlasting punishment with Satan and his angels. Some say - We can't believe that from a God of love! That's because such ones have not submitted to God and His Word as true disciples. They are in danger of the words of Jesus in the Sermon on the Mount, Mathew 7:21-23 - “Not every one that says to me, Lord, Lord, shall enterinto the kingdom of the heavens; but who doesthe will of my :Father who isin the heavens. 22Many will say to me in that :day Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your :name, and in your :name cast our demons, and in your :name do many mighty works? 23And then will I profess to them [that] I never knew you: depart from me, youthat work :lawlessness.” I fear that too many evangelists and professing believers will fall into this category. Makeyour calling and election sure. Take no chances with a “hope-so” faith. Eternity is too long to play games down here on earth for a few brief years of 70 plus or minus a few.

22:24-34 - How many leaders in the church today understand this passage and practiceit? Too few, I fear. Oswald Chambers agrees with this analysis.

22:30 sets forth the reward of the 12 apostles, including the replacement of Judas. In the Millennium, Jesus will be indeed King of the Jews - and at the same time King of kings and Lord of lords over allnations of the earth. No doubt this will cause some gnashing of teeth! And why would the Holy Spirit cause Luke to record Peter's 3-fold denial at this point? I can see at least 2 reasons that fit into the context of this passage. As you pray and meditate over this passage - I am sure the Holy Spirit will reveal them to you also.

22:35-38 - Here Jesus as God's Messiah, equips His disciples to fulfill the final stages of His coming to earth - notto be ministered unto - but to minister, and give His life a ransomfor many! J.A.W.
